ABOUT FAMILY TREE RESALE
Family Tree was founded by Elizabeth Basa, a Chicago-native who grew up thrift shopping throughout the city.
Inspired by her mother's experiences with social services, a desire to help others, and passions for the environment and resale, Elizabeth founded Family Tree in 2009.
Her goal is to service families in need throughout the entire local community, benefit the planet and make the best possible thrift shops for people to enjoy.
The name Family Tree represents the fusion of her inclusive views of community, and the interconnectedness of people with each other and with the environment.
WE GIVE BACK
Since opening in 2009, Family Tree Resale has given back over $500,000 in vouchers to local schools and charities. Our neighbors in need have used these vouchers to come shop for free at Family Tree with dignity and anonymity. We love to see the smiles of the families our program services as they get to shop just like everyone else and select exactly the items they need and enjoy.
If you'd like to learn more about our voucher program, please send us an email at info@familytreeresale.com.
OUR GREEN MODEL
Being environmentally responsible is a top priority at Family Tree. We recycle nearly everything we cannot use. Worn clothing and shoes are sent to wholesale recyclers. Broken electronics are also recycled, along with basic materials, such as glass, plastic, boxes and metals. Everything in the store is given a new life, and encourages a sustainable way of living. We even use recycled bags for customers who need them!
THE FTR EXPERIENCE:
We strive to make the shopping experience at Family Tree enjoyable, eclectic and exciting. With the myriad of donations we receive, we have created a store that boasts organizational sections for every item type imaginable. We take pride in selecting only the best items to go onto the floor, give things a cleaning if needed and even put new batteries into all of our electronic toys. All clothing is hung on wooden hangers, separated by type and size with sections for the entire family. We have an entire aisle of Indian clothes and fabrics, along with plus sections for both men and women. Parents can one stop shop with us as a quarter of the store is dedicated entirely to kids clothes, shoes, toys, books and more.
